Here's Your Sign

Since we’re on the topic of differences, I’ll share some signs that you probably wouldn’t see in the states.

Keep in mind that each of these is a separate sign for the businesses in that strip mall. When viewed as a group, they are a disturbing combination.

Not many cities would want to announce that they have given anyone food poisoning, and certainly not the Prince of Wales. This sign is posted on one of Alice Springs historic landmarks.

The Aussie’s have a tendency to shorten words and create nicknames for items, places and even occupations. Can you guess what they call electricians?

You’d think that a culture that doesn’t post stop signs at T-intersections, because you are expected to be smart enough to stop when the street ends, wouldn’t need a sign quite this obvious.

Hotels across the world worn guests about leaving items in parked cars, but have you ever seen a sign that is this polite?

And speaking of polite, this ad ran last week in the Alice Springs newspaper. I think it’s very polite and proper to let customers know that Ginger is away on vacation.

We’ve all experienced the dreaded “page not found” error message while surfing the web and felt like we’ve done something wrong. I cracked up this week when I got this error message while visiting an Australian website.

I love this country!

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
