What a year it’s been. Last November one of the few people I knew in Alice Springs invited me and the two other women she knew to attend the Melbourne Cup party held at the Alice Springs race course. It was great day and the start of several great friendships. Again this year, the four of us dressed up and headed to the track. It was another fun filled day with plenty of champagne in celebration of friendship and camaraderie.

We were quite well behaved as the day started. I mingled with the fashionably dressed crowd, bet on a few races and chatted with all the people I’ve come to know. Last year I knew just one person at the event, this year I knew about a third of the people in the pavilion and recognized many others I saw throughout the day. (Don’t laugh – I just can’t help myself!)

As the day progressed more champagne was consumed and an increasing level of fun was attained.

The good news is that there was a shuttle bus with a very tolerate driver that returned us safely to the convention center. From there, my darling husband Dave picked up the herd of giggling women and drove each one safely home. The bus driver isn’t as cute as Dave but he does have really sexy knees socks to wear with his uniform shorts. God – I love Australia!

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
