Ponies on a History Tour

Updated: Jun 10

I’ve been lax in posting lately. We’ve been on two big adventures in the last three months, and the weeks have sped by without me sitting down to gather my thoughts and share our experiences.

The week before Easter we ventured the south east corner of England and ticked off several bucket list items.  The ponies version of this adventure is quite abbreviated. That’s okay, since it was created for little people with short attention spans.  On this trip, we were faced with the realization that these  pretty ponies aren’t all that durable. After the loss of massive amounts of glitter and broken unicorn horns (and a near miss on the cliffs of Dover), it was decided that we would need to “green screen” the ponies and allow them to stay safely at home in their stable/envelope.  Photo Shop will allow the ponies to “travel” without risking any more of their appendages. It also gives a bit more creative freedom by inserting ponies into places they might not really be allowed to go (like on the Enigma machine).

Bletchley Park was the first stop and somewhere all good spies should visit.

This is the Enigma machine that was used to break the German code and give the Allied forces the edge needed to win the second World War.

The Salisbury Cathedral was SO big. They even had this really awesome water feature. Dennis said it was for baptizing babies and not ponies and he wouldn’t let us get a drink.  He’s no fun!

We even got to see the oldest copy of the Magna Carta.

Visiting Stonehenge was the highlight of the trip for Paula. It looks like a bunch of big rocks stacked up in a pasture, but she seemed to think it was a big deal.

Dave made me pose for this picture. I think he likes bombs...

We visited the ruins of Hastings Abbey and got to see a proper castle when we spent the day at Dover Castle and some big white cliffs.

At the top of Dover Castle. They even have a draw bridge!

On the way home we stopped in Canterbury for another cathedral.

We think Dennis was still grumpy about the water feature….

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
