Winter Drags On

There are only two seasons here in the centre of Australia – Winter & Summer. Spring and fall don’t really exist. August is the tail end of winter and it should be warming up. Although we no longer getting frost at night, it’s been very windy with the high temp of 50. Not quite beanie weather, but I’ve worn socks and long pants on every day since we got back. I even wore gloves the evening we rode on the back of our friend’s golf cart to a premium wine tasting (not my most dignified moment – but a lot of laughing was involved). The recent weather has left the locals wearing winter gear and grumbling like Minnesotans in March.

The thought of shorts and flip flops is mighty appealing but I’ll

miss the amazing fresh citrus that’s currently in the grocery stores and on the neighbor’s trees. There’s a grapefruit tree next door and the tenant doesn’t eat them so I’ve had my fill of grapefruit so sweet and juicy their more like dessert than a fruit. As much as I’m enjoying those, they can’t compete with tree ripe fresh picked mandarin oranges. The only mandarin’s I’ve ever met were those tasty morsels that come in those cute little cans. As much as I love those, the fresh version blows them out of the water. My current record is 5 in 1 seating.

Fortunately for me only a couple of the neighbors have discovered this treasure so there’s plenty to go around!

It’s supposed to be in the eighties by Friday – so keep your fingers crossed for me!

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
