Safari Details
Several people have asked for details on our safari. Here they are in a nutshell:

We used Audley Travel to arrange our entire trip including international airfare. As avid travelers, we are used to booking our own flights and it felt a bit odd to allow someone else to handle that portion for us. If you are splurging on this type of trip, leave it ALL in the hands of the experts. Audley has a branch in the US as well as the UK. I can’t say enough good things about them and the agent we used. They are top shelf! Without a doubt I’d use them again for a big adventure.
An African safari is not cheap. There are less expensive options than we chose, but I encourage you to think about how comfortable you are in discount accommodations, transportation and guides while traveling in a part of the world that is VERY different than you are used to.
We went in early June which is technically still in the wet season. We didn’t get rained on but it was a possibility. The upside of visiting outside of what’s considered “high season” is that it saved a few thousand per person off the price tag. Prices vary throughout the year. Don’t be afraid to ask your tour operator about seasonal pricing.
Vaccinations - You will need them.
Yellow fever vaccine is required for entrance into Kenya. Several other vaccines are highly recommended. Travelers are also recommended to take anti-malaria meds while they are there. We decided to take them and didn’t have any side effects. The Centers for Disease Control is a good place to start sorting out what's recommended.
